While most people dread rainy and gloomy weather conditions when they are just about to have their photo session done, these photos prove that the lack of sun and a simple umbrella can add unique beauty to compositions. As a photographer, I always need to be ready for unexpected showers and downpours, especially in a climate or season prone to sudden rainfalls.
We had so much fun with Sue Kim, my favourite makeup artist, and her family in Cairns, even though the sun decided to desert us for that day. Because it didn’t let us down at all. I was prepared to keep my camera and gears dry, and Sue happened to have an umbrella with her that really added a touch of color to our dreary day. What is more, clouds gave a soft and balanced light and with that, it was pertinent to convey a poetic message and the emotions the family must have felt, namely, saying goodbye to Sue’s daughter Yoovin before she leaves for Brisbane to start her academic studies.
